As you plan for Valentine’s Day, we want to encourage you to go ‘bigger’ than yourself and significant other this year! Take a look around and see the need in your community. The elderly couple in the neighborhood who take care of each other so much they never do anything nice for themselves; the parents at your child’s school who always lend a hand, but don’t receive any help themselves; a random stranger who looks a bit down on his luck, yet smiles and greets you as you pass. All of these people could use a smile, a bit of relaxation and happiness in their day, and the knowledge that they are not in this alone.
Offer to take the elderly couple to dinner, freeing them of a night of cooking and cleaning. Babysit the parents’ children for the evening so they can go to dinner and relax for a bit. Merely buy the kind stranger a cup of coffee and have a conversation with him. Every small action can have a great impact on the lives of others. Not only that, you never know how helping others will impact your own life. So, instead of spending all of your money on another steak dinner at the local swanky joint for your and yours, go big this year and do something amazing for someone else!
